I am an experimental community ecologist currently focused on two related research topics: interactions among foundation species and their consequences of associated communities and mechanisms that underpin resilience of foundation species to climate change.
James Clyde Nifong - Ph.D. student
I study the role of large-bodied top predators in community-level processes. Currently, I am studying the ecological role of American alligators (Alligator mississippiensis) in coastal and near-shore marine ecosystems.
Top-down control of ecosystems generated by marine foundation species, particularly coral reefs, by consumer/grazer facilitation of microbial infection
Food web dynamics with a focus on the importance of consumer functional diversity in ecosystem multifunctionality
Schuyler van Montfrans - M.S. student
I am currently investigating how the interaction between multiple consumers (top-down) and physical stress (bottom-up) affects primary productivity and community structure in marine communities.
